Sean Tobin wins Annerville Award

These very popular Awards were presented last weekend and it was great to see Sean Tobin winning the Athletics Award for his great achievements in 2019. Sean had a great year in 2019 which saw him compete in the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow in early March running the 3000m in 7 mins 56.27 secs after a training camp in Australia where he ran a 5000m PB of 14 mins 3.22 secs. Then in late March he competed in the World Cross Country Championship in Denmark, by virtue of him finishing 10th in the 2018 European Cross-Country Championships, finishing 62nd in 34 mins 33 secs and he was the 12th European to finish.  In April he set a new course record for the Sonia O Sullivan 10 Mile when winning in a brilliant time of 48 mins 35 secs, which was the fastest time over 10 miles by an Irish athlete in 2019. In early summer he suffered a bad injury that kept him out of action until September when he started back with light training. He then turned his attention to the Cross Country and ran a brilliant race with only a couple of weeks training under his belt when winning the Bronze medal at the national Senior Cross-Country Championship in November. Buoyed by this he then competed in the European Senior Cross-Country Championships in Lisbon in December and led the Irish team home when finishing 18th. Then he rounded off a great year when winning the MSD 4 Mile in his hometown in a new course record of 17 mins 45 secs, a new National 4 Mile record.
