Great team effort at County Juvenile Cross Country Relays

The county juvenile relay championships took place in Turnpike today and conditions were perfect for the 6 teams that competed. The highest number of teams ever, 72 in total competed in the u10 to u16 events. Each team consisted of 4 athletes that ran a 500m lap and handed a baton onto their teammate.

In the girls u10 race the team of Siofra Mangan, Aine Horgan, Ella Rose O Connor and Saorlaith Ryan ran a great race and were unlucky to be placed just outside the medals in 4th position in a race that saw 14 teams line up. Next up were the boys u10 team of Fionn Aird, Darragh Heaney, Ciaran Horgan and Seamus Meegan who also ran very well to place 5th. In the girls u12 we again just missed out on a podium finish with the team of Cara Ryan, Aoife Hennessey, Clair Moore and Moya O Donnell placing 4th.

Then onto the boys u12 event and here we had such strength in numbers that we were able to field 2 team. Having won Gold in the u12 cross country championship 2 weeks earlier it was clear from the start that the team of Adam Prout, Harry Walsh, Devin Ryan and Rory Hennessey would do the double and win the u12 relays as well with some brilliant displays of running. Our second team of Joe O Brien, Alex Lawless, Sam Donovan and Ryan Kennedy also had a great race when placing 5th. The final race of the day for the Clonmel juveniles was the u14 girls and here the team of Hannah Murray Alice Meegan, Julianne Kearney and Elaine Moynihan all ran brilliantly to finish in 6th.

A great day out had by all. Thanks again to athletes parents and team managers. Entries for the Munster Even age Cross Country championship must be given to your coach at training on Tuesday night.
