Paul Minogue wins bronze medal and silver medals for our women

Sunshine and a firm course awaited club members at this year’s County Senior Cross Country Championships at the Turnpike. Once again, congrats to the host club, Moycarkey Coolcroo for ensuring everything was spot on for what was a great day’s competition. The women’s race over 6k saw the athletes negotiate 3 laps and it is brilliant to report that all five Club members ran very well. None more so than Elaine Horgan who was well positioned throughout the race and put in a brilliant effort when finishing 4th. Then we had Caroline Godard making her Club debut also running a brilliant race when finishing 5th and has a bright future in the Sport. Then we had Sareen Walsh, who earlier in the day managed the Juvenile Cross Country relays teams to great success, running a great race when finishing 9th and these three athletes combined to win the Inter Club silver medals and a first County senior medal of Caroline. We also had great running from two athletes making their debut in this Senior Championship event, Jennifer Quinlan 10th and Brid Hearne 11th and both of them should be very pleased with their performances.

In the men’s race 10k race over 5 laps, Paul Minogue went with the early pace and soon found himself in 3rd place at the end of the first lap. Paul maintained this strong pace to win the bronze medal very convincingly. We also had good performances from Conor Fleming 16th, Barry Horgan 31st, Niall O Ceallaigh 33rd, Bernard Feery 35th and Donal Ryan 38th. This squad combined to finish 5th in a very competitive team event.
