Great performances by Killian Whelan at County Championships

The County Track & Field championship took place in Templemore on Saturday 12th ( u13 to u19) and Sunday (u9 to u12) and Clonmel Ac sent it biggest every team with 52 athletes vying for glory. As well as seasonal athletes we had a large number of first timers some of which even made the podium.

The standout performance of the Championship was that of Killian Whelan u 12 winning 5 medals, Gold in the Long Jump, Gold in the 60mH, Silver in the Shot putt, Silver in the 60m Dash and Silver in the 4x100m relay.

 

Other multiple medal winners were Gillian Hughes u16 Bronze in the 200m, Bronze in the 800m, Silver in the High Jump and Bronze in the 4x100m Relay, Saoirse Tracy u15 Silver in the 800m, Gold in the 200m, Bronze in the 80m and Bronze in the 4x100m Relay, Max Fitzgerald u12 Silver in the Long Jump, Bronze in the High Jump and Silver in the 4x100m relay, Odhran McGrath u14 Silver in the 4x100m relay, Silver in the High jump( only loosing out on a count back) and Bronze in Long Jump, Cian Flaherty u13 Silver in the Long Jump and Silver in the 4x100m Relay u15 and Bronze in the u13 4x100m Relay, Conor Flaherty Bronze u15 in the 1500m and Silver in the 4x100m Relay, Michael O Reilly u13 Bronze in the u13 4x100m Relay and Silver in the u15 4x100m Relay, Sean Mullins u12 Silver in the 600m and Silver in the 4x100m Relay, Conor O Gorman u13 Silver in the 600m and Bronze in the u13 4x100m Relay, Matthew Buckley u13 Silver in the Shot putt and Silver in the Javelin, Ronan Hyland u14 Bronze in the 200m and Bronze in the High jump, Laura Cooney u15 Gold in the 1500m and Bronze in the 800m, Cailin Napier u18 Silver in the 1500m, Bronze in the Long Jump, Brid Moynihan u17 Gold in the 800m and Bronze in the 4x100m Relay, Lorcan O Keeffe u18 Bronze in the 1500m, Bronze in the 400m, Gavin English u18 Gold in the 400m and Gold in the 800m and Colm McCarthy u19 Gold in the 1500m and Silver in the 800m.

 

We also had podium finishes for Sarah Whelan u9 Bronze in the Long jump, Sam O Sullivan u14 Gold in the 2k walk, Cianan Power u13 Silver in the High jump, Tadhg Buckley Silver in the u12 4x100m Relay, Grainne O Connor Gold in the u15 2k walk, Erin O Keeffe u11 Bronze in the 600m, Louis Carroll u12 Silver in the 4x100m Relay, Ruby Carroll u14 Gold in the 1500m, Celine Durand u15 Silver in the 1500m, Gimena Zapeta u16 Bronze in the Long Jump, Siobhan Whelan u17 Gold in the 1500m, Daniel Slattery u18 Bronze in the 3000m, Riain Patterson u19 Silver in the 3000m, Cathal O Gorman u13 Bronze in the 4x100m Relay and Roise Flaherty Bronze in the 4x100m Relay.

 

As well as medal winners we had some very fine performances from Conor O Loughlin ( 80m & 200m), Saofra O Loughlin (60m, Long jump and relay), Isabell Fitzgerald ( 60m & Long jump), Hugh Carolan (60m& Long jump), Jenna Hayes (60m & Relay), Toby Hayes ( 300m & Turbo Javelin), Adhvaith Divakaran (Long Jump & 60m), Rachel Buckley (60m & 600m) Roisin Burke (60m & Relay), Daisy O Keeffe (600m & Long jump), Ben Kelleher (60m & Long jump), Mia English (Long jump & 60m), Jack Corbett (60m & Long jump), Kate Hennessy (60m), Cara Hennessy (60m), Donnacha Hurley (60m, Turbo Javelin), James Logue (60m & Long jump), Rachel Logue (60m & Long jump) and Matthew Downey ( High jump and Long jump).

 

In total the club amassed 64 medal and had 12 County Champions. The County B championship will be held in Moyne on Sunday 20th and the club will be in contact with eligible athletes. Clonmel AC would like to thank the coaches, parent and athletes themselves that helped the Club have it best Championship ever. The athletes were exemplarily and wore the Clonmel colours with pride.
