The AAI Track and Field Games took place in glorious sunshine last Saturday, 12th June at Santry Stadium. The Senior Men’s 3000m saw two Club members David Mansfield and William Maunsell going to the start line.
Right from the start the pace was strong as the pacemaker set a strong pace going trough 800m in 2 mins 17 secs and the field was well stretched out at this stage. At this stage both David and William were well positioned in the chasing pack. As the race reached halfway David made his way up to the front of the chasing pack and wit 3 laps to go was in 2nd place, reaching 2k in 5 mins 48 secs. He maintained this strong effort and reached the bell in 7 mins 32 secs and was in a right battle for the minor placings. He was still in 2nd place going down the back straight and in a hectic tussle over the final 150m he kept the pace going to finish a very creditable 3rd in a brilliant time of 8 mins 38.94 secs, brilliant performance. Then we had William also running a great race when finishing 6th in 8 mins 45.63 secs.
