County Gold for Fionn Aird and Aoife Hennessy

The County U9 to u11 Track and Field Championships took place at Templemore and 9 Clonmel Juvenile athletes none of which had ever competed before travelled to represent Clonmel AC.

Great credit must go to the County Board for such a well organised event. In the u9 girls we had Judy O’ Donnell who jumped 2.64m which was enough to take the bronze medal and Clonmel ACs first medal of the day. We also had Faye Hallinan who was just outside the medals placing 4th in both the 60m sprint and the 500m.

In the u10 girls we had 3 competitors Emma Dalton running a great race to place 11th and Eva Wilson jumped 2.89m to place her 5th in a big field, and Aoife Hennessey who hit the front from the gun and never relinquished that position throughout the race to come away with the gold medal and title County Champion. In the boys u10 we again had another County title in fact Fionn Aird did the double winning both the 60m and the 600m in impressive style.

In the u11 Benjamin Cleary ran very well in the final of the 60m to place 8th and Paulo James da Silva also ran very well in the 600m in a time of 2.26. Finally we had Ellie O Donnell who jumped really well in the u11 girls long jump to place 7th.

In total our small group of first timers did the club proud with an impressive medal tally of 3 Golds and a Bronze. The future is bright for the club. I would like to thank the athletes and parents with special thanks for those I drafted in to help on the day. Without you these events could not take place.
