Day Two (Uneven Age) of the County Juvenile Cross Country Championship took
place in Moyglass on Sunday the 14th October and despite heavy rain the
previous two days the course was in perfect condition for running. Great
credit to the host club.
With Individual medals for the first 10 across the line in the u9 to u13
and the first 3 in the u15 to u19 as well as the first 3 teams Clonmel AC.
athletes were well positioned to continue their strong performances seen
the previous week in Two Mile Borris. Entries were big with some races
having 50 athletes at the starting line.
The event kicked off with the u9 Girls and here we had some great running
from Sarah Whelan 7th, Georgia Kerton 14th, Cara Ryan 15th, Sarah O’Reily
19th and Mella McCrann 41st. These girls combined to win the Silver team
medals a fantastic achievement considering it was the first time Georgia,
Cara and Mella had run for the club.
Next up was the boys u9 and here we had 3 first time athletes Harry Walsh
with an amazing 4th place and some super running also from Mikey English
22nd and Timmy Hennessy in 27th place unfortunately we were one short for a
team. In the girls U 11 we had our first County Champion of the day in a
spectacular display of paced running when Eavann Duffy building on her 3rd
last week out of age can home comfortably in 1st place. Her team mates of
Erin Keeffe 16th, Emer Brennan 33rd and Mia English 40th all run very well
with the team finishing just outside the medal placings.
In the boys U11 we had great runs from Daniel Charles 16th, Archie O
Sullivan 34th and Liam Mullins 35th on his first run. Again, the team was
one short to count.
Next up were the girls u13 and Eimear Heafey ran herself into a medal with
her 9th place and Jamie Whelan also ran very well to place 13th. In the
boys U13 the lads set about retaining the County Team Prize for a fourth
year in a row having won the u13, u12 and u11 Top team prize. Clonmel AC
were able to field 2 teams in this age category. First home in a brilliant
run was Conor O Gorman 3rd closely followed by his teammates in Clonmel A
were Cian Flaherty 5th, Matthew Downey 9th and Cathal O Gorman 10th. As
well as receiving individual medals these lads combined to win the Gold
Team prize. The standard of our athletes were so high in this race that the
great running of Sean Mullins 11th, Gearoid Hurley 20th, Ruairi Betts 23rd
and Matthew Buckley 25th combined to finish in 4th place in the team event.
In the girls u15 race we again saw some brilliant running from Laura Cooney
2nd following up on her second place finish last week also, Hazel Brennan
4th, Celine Durand 5th, Saoirse Tracy 6th, Caoimhe Keeley 7th and Ellen
Houze 9th. Clonmel took both the Gold and Silver team medals in the race.
In the boys u15 our sole athlete Conor Flaherty ran a fantastic race to
finish in 8th place. In the girls u17 Clonmel again took the Gold Team
medals with great runs from Siobhan Whelan 2nd a replica of last weeks
result, Emma Murray 4th, Gillian Hughes 5th, Roise Flaherty 7th and Brid
Moynihan 8th.
Next up were the girls u19 and here Elma Casey can home in first place and
our second County Champion . In the final race of the day the boys u19 run
over 6000m we have some fantastic displays of running from Gavin English
who took 1st place and our 3rd County Champion, Colm McCarthy 3rd, Riain
Patterson 4th, Daniel Slattery 5th and Lorcan Keeffe 7th. These lads
combined to win the Gold team prize also.
