Muireann Duffy wins National Junior 3000m bronze medal

The National Junior and under 23 Track and Field Championships took place in Tullamore last Sunday in very warm conditions with little or no breeze.

In the Junior women 3000m race Muireann Duffy, moving up an age group in this under 20 race, displayed great determination and courage when putting in a great effort over the final stages of the race when withstanding some late challengers, to win the National bronze medal in 10 mins 17.84 secs. This was a brilliant performance by Muireann who has now won National medals over the country and on the track, brilliant achievements.

In the Men’s under 23 5000mm race which attracted a very strong entry with a few athletes on American scholarships in the field.  Three athletes moved clear of the chasing pack inside the first few laps with Evan in the chasing pack of six athletes. As the race unfolded Evan emerged out of the chasing pack of four athletes over the last 2 laps to finish a very good 4th in 15 mins 13.75 secs.

Both athletes are to be complimented on producing two fantastic efforts in such sweltering heat.
