William Maunsell sets a New Course record for the 4K

The 3rd race of the Clonmel AC’s very popular Pre-Christmas 4K road race series sponsored by O Reilly’s Total Health Pharmacy, Gladstone Street took place tonight in wet conditions with a heavy mist greeting the athletes at every corner. Such conditions didn’t deter William Maunsell from running a brilliant race. Going out very fast from the start William soon had the entire field in Indian file, going through halfway in 6 mins 10 secs, he kept that strong tempo going to come home when coming home a very clear winner in 12 mins 21 secs, fantastic performance. The old course record of 12 mins 27 secs was set in 2015 by William.

The Club would like to thank Barry Horgan for such generous sponsorship. The Club would also like to thank the Brothers of Charity for the use of their carpark as race headquarters and to the Red Cross for First Aid.
Tonight’s format was a Lucky Dip, this is where predetermined finishing positions are drawn before the race starts and the people who finish in these Lucky positions will win a Cash prize. Tonight’s winners included John Shanahan 12th in 16:28, Elaine Morrissey 24th in 18 mins, Billy o Grady 36th in 20:07 and Thomas Moloney 48th in 24:49.

We also presented 10 Spot prizes of Umbrellas among the finishers. Everyone who competed tonight was entered into a Draw for a very generous Hamper sponsored by O Reilly’s Total Health Pharmacy and the winner was Pat O Connor who was 11th in 16:21. There will be a hamper raffled off at the next week’s race which is the last one of the O Reilly Total health Pharmacy series. Then on December 11th we will hold our Charity 4k in aid of C Saw where all monies donated on the night will go to this very worthy cause.

The first three Men in tonight’s race were William Maunsell 1st in 12 mins 21 secs, 2nd Jimmy Boland in 13 mins 56 secs and 3rd Anthony Bowen 14 mins 39 secs. The first 3 women were Angela McCann 6th in 15:26, Grainne O Callaghan 18th in 17:02 and 3rd Yvonne O Connor 20th in 17:17.

The Club would also like to thank our many stewards who ensured that the whole event was a great success, such help is always greatly appreciated.
Just a note on Safety for the remaining races in the series – No Headphones are allowed and we will be enforcing that rule going forward, it is there for your safety as well as everyone else. Also, everyone has to wear a HIGH VIZ, not a bright Yellow top. So again, NO REFLECTIVE HIGH VIZ – NO RUN
