The very popular Raheny 5 mile took place in good conditions last Sunday with a record entry. At the front of affairs and after the initial charge a group of athletes including William Maunsell, John Travers of Donore Harriers, Mick Clohisey of Raheny Shamrocks as well as Emmet Dunleavy of Sligo set the pace. The pace was strong and fast and at about 3k the leading group was the above -mentioned athletes with the chasing pack in close attention. Then, as the race entered the final 3k Travers and Clohisey opened a gap on William and Emmet. Then over the final mile William went clear of Emmet Dunleavy to finish 3rd in a superb time of 23 mins 56 secs, brilliant performance.
