John Fitzgibbon wins 4k – Clonmel Athletic Club

The 5^th race of the O Reilly Pharmacy 4k took place tonight in cold but dry weather and we saw some great performances throughout the race. The Club would like to thank the Brothers of Charity for the use of their carpark as race Headquarters and the Red Cross for First Aid. The Club also appreciated the great work by our many stewards who despite the cold weather ensured that the whole event was a brilliant success.

The race format tonight was Lucky Dip and the winners were Patrick Bowe 15^th in 16 mins 4 secs, Fran Mulcahy 27^th in 17 mins 34 secs and John Laste in 18 mins 43 secs.

Tonight’s race was won by John Fitzgibbon of Thurles Crokes in 13 mins 22 secs, the fastest time for this series of races with Eamon Morrissey of Dundrum 2^nd in 13 mins 55 secs and Anthony Bowen of Clonmel 3^rd in 14 mins. The top three women were Ann Marie Boland 16^th in 16 mins 34 secs, Ali O Connor 19^th in 16:43 and Elaine Horgan 23^rd in 17 mins 7 secs.

In this series of races we had 184 athletes taking part in one or more races, which is brilliant and great to see a lot of newcomers.

Our next Promotion is the MSD 4 Mile on St Stephen’s day, which again should be a great event as we are celebrating the 30th Anniversary of this event, which was started in 1988 with the aim of encouraging people to participate in running and it is still achieving that Goal.
