Great performances at the County Track and Field Championships

The County Junior, Senior and master’s Track and Field Championships took place last Sunday in Moyne. It was great to see Club members competing in all three categories.

In the Junior events we had Jack Boland winning the Silver in 12.28 secs. In the 400m Thomas Smith won the bronze medal in 57.42 secs with Tadhg Quinn 4th in 59.08 secs. In the 200m we had Jack Boland winning Silver in 24.27 secs, Thomas Smith the bronze medal in 25.30 secs with Tadhg Quinn 4th in 25.56 secs. In the junior women 3000m we had a clean sweep with Muireann Duffy running very well when winning in 10 mins 21.05 secs, with Laura Cooney 2nd in 11 mins 22.91 secs and Ruby Carroll 3rd in 11 mins 44.86 secs. In the men ‘s equivalent Cian Flaherty won the bronze medal in a very good time of 10 mins 35.06 secs.

In the Senior women 1500m Emma Murray ran a great race when winning her first County Senior title in 5 mins 1.78 secs. In the Senior 1500m Evan Fitzgerald ran very well when winning in 4 mins 13.77 secs then later in the day he completed the County 1500m and 5000m double when winning the latter event in 15 mins 53 secs, thus retaining his two County Track titles. Michael McNamara also had a very good Championships when finishing 3rd in the 5000m in 20 mins 43 secs and 3rd in the 1500m in 5 mins 23.57 secs. In the Senior 5000m race Ciaran Doheny making his Club debut on the track made it a good one when finishing 2nd in the Senior 5000m in 18 mins 11.29 secs, a clean sweep for the Club. In the master’s Hazel Galloway ran very well when winning the over 65 title in 17.29 secs and the 200m title in 37.08 secs. Bernard Feery also had a great Championships winning three titles over 60, 400m in 74 secs, 800m and the 3000m in 12 mins 18.88 secs. It was a momentous day for the Club and an ideal opportunity for our junior athletes to share the limelight with our Senior and Master athletes.
