Great performances at the CIT Track meet

This event took place on the 17th August and it was great to see the Club represented by our talented young athletes, each of them performing so well. Most o four athletes competed in the mile, a novel event for many of them as this was their first time tackling the 4 lap race. Based on estimated finishing times, everyone was graded, so we witnessed some great competition throughout the night. The fastest athletes went in the first heat and here Evan Fitzgerald ran a very good race when finishing 8th in 4 mins 39.2 secs with Conor Flaherty also running very well when finishing 11th in 4 mins 55.2 secs, a PB for Conor, brilliant. In the 2nd race Lorcan O Keeffe ran a great tenacious race when finishing 2nd in 4 mins 58.2 secs, a new PB. In this race we also saw great performances from Connor O Gorman 6th in 5 mins 5.4 secs, Cian Flaherty 10th in 5 mins 11.6 secs and Cathal O Gorman 11th in 5 mins 12.1 secs, PBs all round. Cailin Napier ran in the 3rd Mile event and she too ran very well when finishing 4th in a new PB of 5 mins 36.6 secs. There was also a series of 5000m races. Here Ciara O Neill ran very well when finishing 5th in 18 mins 43.1 secs, her first track race in over three years and very close to her PB of 18 mins 40 secs. Roise Flaherty made her 5000m track debut and she too should be very happy with her performance when finishing 9th in 22 mins 17.4 secs. It is great to see such performances from these athletes who were competing against adults and speaks volumes for the coaching of Anthony Moynihan and co to have them at such a high level of fitness.
