Great performances at National Indoors

Clonmel were well represented at Day 3 of the Irish Life Health National Indoor Championships in Athlone on Sunday the 25th March with four of our juvenile athletes competing. In the girls u16 we had Gillian Hughes who was drawn in the second heat, with a very fast qualifying time registered from the first heat her race set off at a strong pace with 5 girls in contention and the rest of the field left behind. Gillian coming home in 5th place was only 1.4 second away from a place in the final when she ran a PB of 2.31.

Next up was Colm McCarthy in the boys u19 800m and Colm was drawn in the first heat and was well in contention after 600m but was eventually tailed off over the final 200m when running a time of 2.08, 2 seconds faster than his Munster qualifying time, so high was the calibre of competitor that in the final all top 6 finishers ran sub 2 minutes. Then we had Ava Fennessey no stranger to National level competition competing in the u17 girls 800m. Ava ran well with a time of 2.44 to finish 6th in the heats. Finally we had Gavin English running in his first Nationals in the boys u18 800m and Gavin posted a time of 2.07 just outside the final qualifying time of 2.05 but a fantastic run and a new PB as well.

Clonmel AC would like to thank the athletes and coaches who flew the Clonmel colours at the Irelands Apex Indoor juvenile competition.
