Conor Ryan wins 4K

The Clonmel AC New Year’s Resolution 4k series of races started tonight on what was an ideal night for getting out for a run and it was great to see 78 athletes taking part. Indeed, looking down through the results it was great to see so many newcomers at this event which is an ideal event to help a person to get Fit and stay Fit for January. This series of races takes place every Tuesday night in January and a great incentive to keep participating in this series of races as you have a goal each week to compete in a 4k at your own pace in the company of other athletes. Tonight, we had three groups going off at different times, the first group, Yellow Number, went off at the Race Start time, Group two, the Green numbers went off 20 seconds later and so we deducted 20 seconds off these athletes’ finishing times and group three, the Orange numbers, went off 20 seconds after group two, so we deducted 40 seconds off their finishing times. The results below will show the nett time for each finisher.

The format for tonight’s race was Lucky Dip, this is where pre-selected finishing positions are selected before the race start and whoever finished in those pre-selected positions won an award and tonight’s winners were Barry Horgan 13th in 16 mins 22 secs, Justin Walsh 25th in 17 mins 35 secs, Nessa O Dwyer 41st in 19 mins 21 secs, Tadhg Twomey 54th in 21 mins 33 secs and Tess Kiely 73rd in 26 mins 43 secs.

Tonight’s race was won by Conor Ryan in 14 mins 40 secs, 2nd was Fintan Rice in 15 mins 11 secs with Paul Nolan 3rd in 15 mins 19 secs. The top three women finishers were 1st Ann Marie Boland 16 mins 37 secs, 2nd Elaine Horgan 17 mins 9 secs and 3rd was Elaine Morrissey 17 mins 39 secs.

The Club would like to thank the Brothers of Charity for the use of their car park as Race Headquarters, the Red Cross for the First Aid and to our many stewards and helpers who ensured that the whole event was a great success.

Here is a local race coming up on Sunday 20th January, it is the Newcastle 5k, a well organised event and you will be guaranteed a great race and plenty of Post-Race Refreshments for just 10 Euros.
