The Club travelled to Templemore last Sunday for the County Masters Road Championships. The performances of our over 65 squad of Noel Howley, 1st over 70 in 14 mins 43 secs, Ned O Brien 14 mins 54 secs and Myles McHugh 1st over 75 in 17 mins 3 secs, in the 3k race set the scene for what was a wonderful day for the club. This trio combined very well to win the Inter Club silver medals and it was great to see all three athletes still enjoying the Sport, an inspiration to everyone.
In the Masters 6k race, Paul Minogue was a very convincing winner of the over 35 title in 19 mins. Paul went to the front right from the start and maintained a strong tempo that saw him winning impressively. Then we had Nigel O Flaherty running very well when finishing 2nd over 45 in 21 mins 9 secs with his club mate Dermot Logue finishing 3rd over 45 in 21 mins 26 secs. Joey Feery made his entrance into the master’s a winning one when winning the over 35 Bronze medal in 21 mins 37 secs. Conor Fleming continued his recent good form when winning the over 50 title impressively in 21 mins 44 secs. Our other individual medal winner was Bernard Feery who was 2nd over 60 in 25 mins 7 secs. We also had good performances from Ciaran Doheny 9th in 21:24, Jamie Byrne 23rd in 23:19 and Sean O Dea 32nd in 24:55. In the team awards our over 35 team of Paul, Nigel, Ciaran and Dermot were the winners, winning back a title last won in Clonmel in 2017. Our over 50 trio of Conor, Sean and Bernard won the silver team medals.
In the master’s women 6k race we also witnessed some great performances. None more so than Angela McCann who again produced a very good run when finishing 2nd overall and winning the over 50 title in 22 mins 18 secs. Then we had Suzanne Shine also running very well when winning the over 40 bronze medal in 23 mins 54 secs. Michelle Doherty is another athlete who is running very well at the moment, and she maintained that great form when winning the over 45 title impressively in 26 mins 7 secs. Then we had Marian Flaherty also running very well when finishing 13th in 27 mins 22 secs. Our over 45 team of Angela, Michelle and Marian were crowned County Champions. Overall, it was a wonderful day for the Club and thanks to Susan Laste for all the great photos.
