These Championships took place in Nenagh last Sunday and we had four athletes competing. In the over 50 category Neil Proven was making his debut at these Championships and he had a fantastic Championships. The highlight of his events had to be the High Jump, where he cleared 1.45m, brilliant. He also put in a brilliant performance in the 800m when winning the Bronze medal in 2 mins 26.34 secs. He also showed a quick turn of foot when running the 200m in 29.21 secs. He rounded off a great day when winning the Shot Putt with a throw of 9.14m. In the over 55 category John Laste also showed great speed when winning the 400m Bronze medal in 69.88 seconds, he also ran a great 800m race when finishing a close 4th in 2 mins 46.17 secs. Hazel Galloway achieved the Sprint Double Gold in the over 60 60m and 200m, great performances, Hazel won the 60m in 9.94 secs while in the 200m she was very impressive winner in 35.84 secs. Bernard O Neill compete in the over 65 category and he too had a brilliant Championships, considering his training has been recently hampered by injuries. Still Bernard produced great performances none more so than his PB in the 200m behind Joe Gough of West Waterford when clocking 31.92 secs. Bernard was also impressive when winning the 60m in 9.34 seconds. He then turned his attention to his favourite Field event the Long Jump and here he won the Gold medal with a jump of 3.51m, he rounded off a great Championships when winning the Silver medal in the Shot Putt with a throw of 7.28m, brilliant start to 2018 by our Master(class) athletes.
