4 Munster Champions Sam, Muireann, Emma & Gillian for Clonmel

Days 1& 2 of the Munster u12 to u19 Championship took place in Corks MTU stadium last weekend and Clonmel AC were well represented and came home with 5 medals. With nearly 700 athletes competing big fields were the order of the day

In the u12 boys Rory Hennessey and Adam Prout finished 11th and 13th respectively running great times of 1.55 and 1.57 for the 600m. Next up was Harry Weymouth who ran very well in the u13 600m with a time of 1.57. Then onto the u16 800m and here Conor O Gorman was just outside the medals when placing 5th and his training partner Michael Connellan also had a great run to place 10th. In the boys u17 800m we again had two athletes with both putting in spirited performances Darragh Walsh 5th and Thomas Smith 6th, In the boys u17 walk Sam O Sullivan retained his Munster Title in style with a comprehensive win in a time of 15,03. In the u16 3000m Cian Flaherty put in a fine race to place 6th. His older brother Connor also competed in the 3000m and was just outside the medals in 4th place. In the u17 200m Jack Boland ran a very fast 25.7 to place 7th.

Not to be outdone by the boys the girls went into competition on day 2. Ruby Carroll put in a fine performance to place 6th in the u17 3000m. Next up was probably the club’s performance of the day with Muireann Duffy winning the Gold in the u18 3000m. Only 3 years ago Muireann won the county B 800m in Clonmel, but her win was the epitome of hard work and dedication to go on to be crowned Munster champion. In the u19 3000m we again came out on top with a fantastic performance by Emma Murray to take the gold medal. In the u15 walks Ivy Rhatigan in her first competition put in a brilliant race to place 4th. In the u18 walks Grainne O Connor had a battle on her hands to pip the silver medal by just 0.3sec. Finally, Gillian Hughes rounded off the day with another brilliant performance to claim Clonmel AC 4 Munster Title our best overall tally in a number of years.

Days 3 & 4 will take place on the 18th and 19th July in Cork. Let’s hope this great vein of results continues. Clonmel AC would like to thank the athletes coaches team managers and parents for making this such a great day. Without their help none of this would be possible.
