Brilliant performances at the Munster Road Championships

The Club travelled to the Munster Road Championships last Monday in Castlelyons with good representation in both the Women’s and Men’s 4-mile events. In the Women’s 4-mile event we had very good performances with Aine Roche putting in a very good run when finishing 11th overall. Then we had Anne Marie Boland and Suzanne Shine working hard together as they finish strongly in 16th and 17th positions overall respectively. A short while later we saw Michelle Doherty and Anne Marie Halpin also running very well together when finishing 28th and 29th respectively, this was Anne Marie’s debut for the Club in a Championship race and great to see her running so well. These were the overall position as they crossed the finishing line and that included three separate events, Novice, Senior and Masters. So, in the Novice category we had Anne Marie Boland finishing 11th in Munster, Suzanne Shine 12th, Michelle Doherty 23rd and Anne Marie Halpin 24th and they combined very well to win the Inter Club Bronze medals, brilliant, while Anne Marie Boland and Suzanne Shine were on the County Novice team that won the Silver medals. At Senior level Aine Roche was 9th Senior with Anne Marie Boland 14th, Suzanne Shine 15th and Michelle Doherty 21st and this quartet combined very well to win the Inter Club Bronze medals. The County Senior Women’s team were 3rd and we had Aine Roche, Anne Marie Boland and Suzanne Shine on the team. At Master level our over 35 Club team of Aine Roche 8th, Suzanne Shine 14th, Michelle Doherty 24th and Anne Marie Halpin 25th combined very well to win the Inter Club Silver medals while all four scored on the Inter County team that won Silver, fantastic performances all round.

The Men’s race also attracted a very strong entry. Here we had Jimmy Boland running very well throughout the race and he put in a great effort over the closing stages to finish 9th overall and just edged out for the Bronze medal position in the Novice category, still a great performance. Then we had Joey Feery also running very well when finishing 25th overall with Anthony Bowen finishing strongly in 32nd place. He was closely followed across the finishing line by Conor Fleming in 48th overall with Corneilius McFadden 72nd overall, Aidan Cremin 76th, John Laste 81st and Tom Bourke 84th overall, all very good performances. Then when these performances were put into the various categories these performances were very well rewarded. In the Novice event Jimmy Boland was 4th, Joey Feery was 15th, Anthony Bowen 21st, Conor Fleming 34th and this quartet combined very well to win the Inter Club Silver medals. The County Novice Men’s County team won the Gold medals with Jimmy Boland on the scoring team and Joey Feery just missed out as he was the 7th County Man to finish with that great run. At Senior level we had Jimmy Boland finishing 9th, Joey Feery 22nd, Anthony Bowen 27th and Conor Fleming 33rd and this quartet combined very well to finish 4th Senior Club in Munster with Jimmy Boland scoring on the County team that won the Silver medals. At Master level Conor Fleming’s very good performance saw him win the over 50 Individual Bronze medal and with very good performances from Corneilius McFadden 6th over 50 and John Laste 5th over 55 they combined to win the Inter Club over 50 Bronze medals with Conor also scoring on the County team that won Gold. It was brilliant to see Club members performing so well at this level of competition with a few them winning their first Munster medals for the Club.
