Sean Mullins wins County title

The County Juvenile B Cross Country Championships took place near Lisheen mines last Sunday and it was great to see Club members running so well. Many of these athletes are tasting Cross Country running for the first time this year and it is great to see what progress they have made with every outing and great to see the hard work done at the twice weekly training session paying dividends. Our first athletes into action were the Girls under 11 and here we had a great group of athletes giving it everything. Especially Emer Brennan who went with the early charge and was still well positioned as they entered the finishing straight, putting in a late surge to win the Bronze medal, great running. Then we had Erin O Keeffe also running well especially over the closing stages to finish 6th with Alice Meegan also finding an extra gear over the closing stages to move into 11th place. These three athletes combined very well to win the inter Club Silver medals. In the Boys under 11 race Liam Mullins was our sole representative and again a relative newcomer to the Sport he ran well when finishing 11th. In the Girls under 13 race the Club had two athletes competing and both Jamie Whelan and Rachel Logue ran well when finishing 7th and 9th respectively and had they another team member they would have got among the medals with these two fine performances. In the Boys under 13 we had Sean Mullins, a relative newcomer to the Sport but who has learned with every outing and he showed that on Sunday. He went with the early pace and was watching every move. He then moved clear in the closing stages to come home a clear winner. This performance inspired his other teammates and both Ruairi Betts and Matthew Buckley responded with great efforts over the closing stages when finishing 5th and 7th respectively, great running. This trio combined very well to win the Gold medals. The final race of the day was the Boys under 15 and here we had Cian Flaherty also running a brilliant race. Cian went with the early pace and was sharing the lead for the majority of the race. Then in a hectic surge for the finish he was edged out of the Gold medal but rallied to win the Silver medal, great running. Once again it was great to see such great support from parents.
