Frequently Asked Questions #BSHM2017?

When is the race on? The Boston Scientific Half Marathon will be held on Sunday August 20th 2017.

What time does it start? The Half Marathon Race will start at 10am sharp, the start is 1k from HQ so leave enough time to get there.

Is there a Race limit for the event this year? Yes, 800 participants is our max,  will close registration if / when we reach that number.

Is there a cut off time to complete the course?  We're there to encourage & support everyone to achieve their goal every step of the way. We were delighted to welcome many Walkers to our event in 2016 & hope to see many more come along in 2017. This half marathon is an 'all inclusive' event, if you train to participate in it, we'll be there to meet you at the end! With this in mind we've extended our course cut off time to 3hr 30 mins.

Can I enter on line? Yes, in fact we are only taking online entries using this link  Register HERE for Boston Scientific Half Marathon 2017.  (Please note there is a €1.95  transaction fee payable for using this facility).

Can I enter by post? No, online entries only until 18th August 2017 or cash entries at race HQ 19th & 20th August.

How much is the race entry? The fee for this race is €25 up to and including  1st July 2017.  The fee will be €35 from 2nd July to 18th August at 9pm when online registration closes. The fee will increase to €45 on 19th & 20th August at race HQ  till 9.00 am.

Why 3 different prices? As a club of runners organising this Half Marathon for fellow runners we decided to offer athletes the chance to enter our well established event at a reduced fee €25 if they enter early. After that deadline the entry fee will be €35 from 2nd July to 18th August at 9pm and €45 on 19th & 20th August (subject to race limit not been reached)

Can I enter on the day? Yes, it will be €45 and only available from 8:00 am till  9.00 am at race HQ, just go directly to the 'Late Entry' desk inside the main front door. We cannot guarantee accurate t-shirt size to those who enter on the day. Please also be aware that we cannot guarantee entry if our race limit is reached before race day so our advice is to enter early and avoid disappointment.

Where are the Race Headquarters? The Race Headquarters will be at LIT Campus, The Bypass, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary. Just 15 mins off the M8 junctions from Cahir or Cashel. Clonmel is just an hour from Cork, Portlaoise, Nenagh, Limerick, 2hrs from Dublin & only 45-50 mins from Waterford, Dungarvan, Kilkenny, Thurles, Fermoy and 30 mins from Mitchelstown or Tipperary Town.

Where is the Race Headquarters in relation to the Race Start and Race Finish? The race will start approx 1Km from the race headquarters while the race finishes outside the Race Headquarters on the grounds of LIT campus. Will there be changing facilities available here? Yes, there will be changing facilities available at the Race Headquarters.

Will there be Shower facilities? Yes, at the Clonmel Og facility across from the Race Headquarters

When will I get my number? All Pre Registered athletes must collect their number and        T- Shirt at the Pre Registration area at Race Headquarters at the LIT Campus, Clonmel on Saturday 12th August between 2 & 4pm or on race day from 8:00 to 9:30am.

Will there be chip timing? Yes, there will be chip timing by Premier Timing Systems,

What first aid facilities are available? On the day of the race we will have Civil Defence personnel in charge of all First Aid. There will an ambulance following the race. These qualified paramedics will be on hand to attend to any emergency. If you have any difficulty please notify a steward on the course.

Does this race have an A.A.I. permit? Yes this race does have an A.A.I. permit.

What are the prizes for the race? The is a €2500 prize fund, please refer to Race Prizes section for a breakdown. We also have a bonus prize for breaking both men & women's course record. There will be spot prizes for down the field finishers. Breakdown of Prizes

Will there be parking available? Ample parking facilities are available at the Race HQ. Stewards will be on hand to direct you in & out of the area, for convenience it's a one way system bringing you into the car park at the LIT entrance on the bypass & out onto the Cashel Road. There will be no parking allowed on the Bypass outside the LIT.

Should I wear my number on the front or the back? Your race number should always be worn on the front, on your singlet/t-shirt, not on your shorts. it's advisable to use 4 pins, one in each corner to avoid getting in your way while running.

What do I need to bring with me to collect my race number? It is important that you bring some ID or confirmation email if you have pre registered. At Race HQ you will receive your number, pins and your Performance T Shirt. Pre entries packs will be arranged in alphabetical order on the day so just go to the corresponding desk to collect your number & t-shirt.

Will there be mile markers on the course? Yes

Will there be Pacers? Yes for 1:30, 1:40, 1:50, 2hr, 2:10 & 2:20

Will there be water stations? There are 4 water stations on the Course at 3 miles, 6 miles 9 miles and approx 11.5 miles providing plenty of water to athletes.

Can I wear headphones for mobile phone/IPod/Mp3 player? We do not under any circumstances allow our runners to use multi media devices.  We have found out over the years that headphone wearers do not hear instructions from our stewards/Gardai and so are safety hazards. With the numbers we have in this race we must look after everyone's safety and so to stop this we do not give headphone wearers any finish time. We will have someone assigned to take note of their race number and 'headphone wearer' will appear on the race results instead of their name. We take this very seriously, we have to, your safety is important to us.

Can I transfer my number if I can't run on the day? Under no circumstances can you transfer your race number and if this occurs you will be denied entry in the future as will the person who used your number.

Can I get a refund if I can't run on the day? Entry fees are not refundable under any circumstance, if you are unable to run you can still come to collect your race pack.

What happens when I cross the finish line? Please proceed immediately through the finish tunnel where you will be awarded your well earned finishers medal. You will also get water & a post race pack containing fruit, crisps & a bar.

Will there be post race refreshments? Yes, once you've cooled down & changed we invite you avail of  complementary tea / coffee , sandwiches & other well deserved treats, you MUST show your race number to be permitted access.  We encourage people to stay around for a while to soak up the atmosphere & appreciate what you've achieved in the company of other participants & friends.

I've friends & family travelling to watch the race, where can they get refreshments? . There will be a tuck shop at race HQ to cater for friends & family who are permitted to picnic on the grounds of the LIT while they wait near the race finish, it's a family friendly area with a Bouncy Castle to entertain the kids. Race HQ is centrally located near 2 roundabouts with a garage close to either one of them that have all the amenities

Where will the results be published? Results will be published on the Clonmel Athletic Club website www.clonmelac.com after race day & www.premiertiming systems.com. Prizes will be presented at Race HQ after the Half Marathon at approximately 12:30pm.
