New Years 4k Road Series

The Club will once again be promoting a series of 4k for seven Wednesday nights in January and February to encourage people who are over 16 years of age to Get Fit and Stay Fit. We promoted a very successful Pre Christmas series where we averaged 80 people each night to participate and get fit and this has encouraged us to do a 2010 New Year Series of 4K. The series gets underway on Wednesday 13th January at 7 pm. We encourage everyone to come along and participate at your own pace over the 2 lap route which is relatively flat and well lit up. The entry fee is €4 each night and everyone who participates in four out of the seven races will receive a Special designed Mug.

We have always been most fortunate that whatever the conditions it always seems to clear for us just in time before the start of the race each night and so for future reference come along even if the weather isn’t the most favourable, you’ll be glad you did. It’s a good idea to bring a change of top with you to change into straight after the run. Please remember that each and every runner must register first when they submit their name and the entry fee they will each receive a number. All Athletes must register before participating in the Series and registration takes place every night. So we would ask everyone to be entered and registered by 6.50pm so that the race will start each night at 7 pm. We would ask everyone to co operate with this request. For first timers come along and give it a try, you won’t know if you like it or not unless you give it a try. All those who took part for the first time in the Pre Christmas they have continue to train and are looking forward to this Series. Don’t forget your Reflective Bib, No Bib – No Run, for safety reasons all runners must wear a Bib while out on the course. More and more runners are running on other nights of the week which is great to see, well done to you all. Please remember to wear your bib while out training “Be safe Be seen”

In the seven race series we will have different race formats like the Lucky Dip – where the winning places are drawn out of a hat at the end of the race, so everyone has a chance of winning, in this type of race you can wear a watch. In the “predict your winning time” – an athlete predicts their finishing time when registering and runs the route without the aid of a watch and the winners are those athletes, regardless of finishing positions, who are closest to their predicted time when crossing the finishing line. We also have – Countdown to Zero seconds competition - here athletes can’t wear a watch and they go off at their selected times as the Clock counts down to Zero Seconds and the winners are those athletes who cross the finishing line closest to when the clock hits Zero seconds. Weather permitting we have at least six different race formats which gives everyone, regardless of their fitness levels, a chance of winning.

The results are e mailed to everyone after the race, so you can look at your time and then set a Goal for the next week. Many athletes fine this great as it gives them a Goal to achieve. There are many athletes who started off doing just one lap and now they are improving on their 2 lap times with great enthusiasm. So why not give it a try, New Year’s resolution – Participate in the Clonmel AC 4k Series with a friend or friends and see your fitness levels improve in a great environment. Get Fit in the Company of others.
