County Masters Cross Country

The County Master Cross Country Championships took place in ideal conditions in Thurles last Sunday and it was great to see the Club very well represented despite the Dublin City Marathon taking place as well. In the Ladies race Angela McCann set a fast pace from the start and made every stride a winning to capture the 0/35 title in convincing form. Then we had Maria Walsh making a welcome return to competition and she ran well on her first outing when finishing 5th overall. Then we had Nicola Maunsell running well to win the 0/35 bronze medal and in the process along with Angela and Maria won the Inter Club award. Then we had Hazel Galloway running very well when winning the 0/50 title.

In the Men’s race Jim McHugh made a very welcome return to competition and improved as the race progressed to finish well up in 12th place, great to see Jim back competing again. Then we had John Walsh also running well when finishing 13th overall. Jim St John was another athlete making a welcome return to competition and he ran very well when winning the Bronze 0/50. Then we had Maurice Boland running well when finishing 30th and along with Jim and Joe won the Silver medals in the 0/50 team competition. Joe Grinsell ran a great race to win the 0/60 title convincingly. Then we had two of the Club’s longest serving members back competing as well as ever. Indeed it was great to see both Myles McHugh and T J O Loughlin back competing and they both ran very well with the lead changing a number of times between them as they competed for the 0/65 title. Myles edged ahead on the final lap to capture the title with T J winning the Silver medal, great running.
