2009 Winter Series - Week Four

Cross Country “A” Championships

The County Cross Country “A” Championships took place last Sunday in ideal conditions. The Club was well represented. In the Girls Under 10 race Ciara Parker making her debut in these Championships ran brilliantly to finish 4th and her performance saw her win a top ten medal position, while Chloe Conway was also well positioned. In the Boys Under 10 we were well represented, here we had great performances from Fergus English who was 22nd, Michael Cleary who was 27th, Evan Phelan who was 39th, Sean O Donnell was 49th George Mordaunt was 53rd and it was great to see these young athletes performing so well. In the Boys under 12 Cillian English making his debut in these Championship ran a great race when finishing 5th and was rewarded with a top ten medal. In the girls under 16 race we had Maria Doverman also making her debut in these Championship running very well when winning the Bronze medal.

Dublin City Marathon

The Club was very well represented in this year’s Dublin City Marathon. We had debutants like Kealey Tideswell, Aine Roche, Sarah Whelan, Mark Young all putting in brilliant performances and congrats on achieving such a goal. Read the rest of this entry »

2009 Winter Series - Week Two Results

Well done to everyone on creating another record entry as tonight we had 98 participants, which is fantastic considering we had 30 people who ran the first night that didn’t run tonight. Brilliant, I hope you all enjoyed the event and now that you have started, which is the hardest thing to do, that you all will keep up the training at your own pace and progress will be made. Tonight’s competition was “Predict your Time” and the people who finished closest to their prediction were the winners, I have highlighted the 10 winners, well done and congrats. Orlaith, Reece & Sean - County Champions

On Sunday last Clonmel Athletic Club travelled to The Turnpike outside Thurles for the 2nd day of the County Cross country championships. The day was once again kind with a slight mist clearing to nice autumnal sunshine.

In the first race of the day there were fine performances for Eva Fennessy finishing tenth followed by Chloe Conway making her debut and finishing a fine 37th. Read the rest of this entry »

4k Series - Week 1

Well done in creating history tonight as tonight’s race had a record entry of 95 athletes, hope you all enjoyed the experience. Well done to everyone for having a high vis top, same again next week - No Viz - No Run.

Next week’s race will start at 7 pm, so come along early and enter. the format next week is “Predict your finishing time”. That involves you giving us your predicted finishing time - it can be slower or faster than what you ran tonight - you decide. Then you will run the 4k without a watch. We will announce the winners and present the Prizes at the 3rd race night.
Now that you have started, keep up the training and remember everyone who competes in 5 out of the 8 races will receive a Special Momentum on the final night, it is well worth the effort!!!

Great performances in County Championships

Sunday last saw Clonmel Athletic Club travel to the first County Cross Country Event in Moyne, Co. Tipperary. The weather was again very understanding for all concerned as a most untypical day of sunshine and settled conditions prevailed for the race programme much to the delight of the 39 strong Clonmel Juveniles that competed on behalf of the club, many of who were making their Championship debut for the Club. Cork To Cobh 15 Miler

There was a huge turn out for last Sundays Cork to Cobh 15 mile road race, This race is traditionally used as a marker by many who have the upcoming Dublin marathon in their sights. Its a great barometer as to how one is going and what form there in with a just a couple of weeks to go top the big day. The Club athletes and there are many training for the Dublin City marathon are all in terrific shape. So all they need just now is to start cutting back on the training and keep injury and sickness free for the remaining weeks. Unfortunately we have just got the first couple of results as we go to press, but we will carry the full results in next week’s notes. Vasiliy Neumerzhitskily is running very well at present and he ran very well last Sunday when finishing 10th in 87 mins 49 secs to finish 1st 0/40. Kealey Tideswell followed up her great performance in the Dublin Half Marathon to finish 2nd lady here in a brilliant time of 98 mins 39 secs.
