The 3rd race of the Clonmel AC series of 4k took place in good conditions last week; a big improvement on the weather also saw an increase in the number of participants. The race format was that each athlete was given a target time to reach based on their predicted time that in turn was altered by the organisers slightly. It proved a great competition as the organisers altered everyone time by either increasing or decreasing their predicted time by 10 seconds. In this race each athlete could wear their watch. We had 48 participants and right from the start the pace was strong. Read the rest of this entry »

Our weekly 4k Series continued last week with a great entry. It was nice to see some familiar faces making a welcome return while we had a good number of newcomers. The format was Predict your finishing time and run without the watch. This type of competition is very good as most athletes have a good idea of their pace over this distance and so to get among the prizes you have to be good at pacing yourself. The Munster Senior and Junior Indoor Championships took place last Sunday in Nenagh. In the Senior Men’s 3000m Niall McCormack underlined his rich form when running a great race to win the title very convincingly in mins secs. This was another great performance by Niall who is running well and who is looking forward to the County Junior Cross Country Championships next Sunday in Holyford where he will be aiming to go one better than last year and add this title to the Munster title he won recently. This race also incorporated the Junior 3000m and here midway through the race Colm Nolan emerged from the pack and upped the pace to go into 2nd place, a position he held all the way to the line to finish in 10 mins 4 secs. This was a great performance by Colm who is running very well at present. He is another athlete looking forward to the County Junior Cross Country next Sunday. In the Junior Men’s Walk Dean Looby put in a faultless performance to win the title in 29 mins 27 secs. This was a great performance by Dean as he was competing over this distance for the first time and he continues to improve, a great way to get his season off to a winning start. Grainne Power competed in the Junior Ladies Triple Jump where her best jump was 8.88m to finish 8th. Then later in the day she competed in the Long Jump where she finished 6th with 4.61m.

This took place recently with a good attendance. The Chairman, Albert Doyle opened the meeting and in his address thanked all the athletes for their performances throughout the year. The Club enjoyed a great degree of success during 2007 and well done to all the Coaches who gave of their free time. It was great to see a number of people qualified as Coaches during the year, he gave a special mention to our RDO, Jackie Stokes, for all her work in this area. He also paid a special tribute to all the parents who helped in anyway during the year. Read the rest of this entry »

This very popular race took place last Sunday and it was great to see the Club very well represented. Vasiliy Neumerzhitskiy was the first Club athlete to finish and he ran very well when finishing 3rd 0/40 in 60 mins 26 secs, improving on last year’s performance by 16 seconds. Then we had Larry Martin running very well when finishing 50th in 61 mins 48 secs, this was a brilliant run by Larry when one considers that he ran 64 mins 28 seconds in last year’s race, a PB for the Course and Distance. Then we had Bill Burke making a very welcome return to competition and he ran well when finishing 186th in 71 mins 17 secs. Our next man to finis was Niall McCarthy who will be very pleased with this performance which saw him finishing 202nd in 71 mins 49 secs Willie O’Connell is another man who has continued to train over the festive season and he will be very pleased with this performance which saw him finishing 223rd in 72 mins 50 secs. Anthony O’Brien is another man making a welcome return to competition and he ran well when finishing 234th in 73 mins 17 secs. Frank Fahey also ran well when finishing 265th in 74 mins 30secs.
