The Clonmel Athletic Club Winter Series of Races continued last week with the 7th race of the Series. Once again the weather was ideal. The race format was a Handicap race based on each athlete’s best time for the distance. Each athlete was given a starting time based on their best time to date. The slowest person started the race at scratch and then all the other athletes went off at their handicap time. If every athlete ran to their best time then all the athletes should cross the finishing line together. Read the rest of this entry »

The 6th race of the Clonmel Athletic Club 4k road series took place last Wednesday night and once again the weather was very favourable. The race format was a two person relay team. Each team was given a handicap and with 26 teams competing we had some great racing. The teams were put into 4 groups with each group given a different starting time. In all only 100 seconds separated all the teams at the finish. Indeed the handicapper done well considering that there were seven new entrants competing. The Club traveled to the County A Cross Country Championships last Sunday which were held in the Thurles Crokes complex. In the Girls Under 10 our athletes were running only their 2nd race for the Club. Jessica McNamara ran very well when finishing 21st, then we had Kayleigh O Brien performed very well when finishing 30th with Fionnuala Sheehan was 30th. In the Boys under 10 Conor McGeever ran a great race when finishing a close 4th. Then we had Colm McCarthy running a fine race in 28th place. Then we had another relative newcomer Rian Quigley running a fine race to finish 32nd. In the Girls under 12 Rachel Maher underlined her good form of late when running very well to finish 5th and like Conor McGeever won an Individual top 10 medal, brilliant running. In this race we also had Josephine O Connor running very well to finish 20th in what was a competitive race. In the final Girls race of the day we left the top performance finish the day on a high note for the Club. In the Girls under 16 race we had Veronica Horgan representing the Club. In the race she quickly went into the lead shortly after the start and set a strong tempo, which proved a winning one, as she went on to win convincingly.
