Inter Firms Road League

March 16th, 2010 admin

This League will commence on Wednesday 31st March and will continue on Wednesday 7th and 14th of April. On the 21st April we will have the handicap race. This year all athletes must predict their finishing time for each race when entering. Then everyone must run the course without a watch. Their finishing times will be recorded at the finish. An athlete will score points for his team by the number of seconds he/she is closest to his/her time. This year it will be the cumulative combined time for the best three athletes on each team closest to their predicted time. So if one athletes predicts 30 mins and runs 29 mins 30 secs, its -10 secs another athlete on the team runs 29 mins and predicts 29 mins 10 secs, that plus 10 seconds while the 3rd athlete to count on the team runs 29 mins 5 secs while predicting 29 mins, that plus 5 seconds, so their combined score is 5 seconds. The team with the lowest number of points wins. The best three athletes, who finish closest to their time, not where they finished in the race, will count for their team. So you, the athlete, can set your own time each night and go for it.

So now is the time to be organising your teams and remember teams can be mixed and members can come from different places of employment. Teams can consist of five athletes with three to count each night. The entry fee is €12 and it covers all four races. For further enquiries please contact Niall O Sullivan at 086 1660888.

This year we have devised a Get Fit Schedule for all those who would like to do a 10K in eight weeks called “from Couch to 10K in eight weeks”. This schedule must start Week commencing on Monday 15th March. There are three sessions per week and you set the pace.

Couch-to-10k Training Program

Preparation for the Clonmel AC Annerville 10k

Week Starting Tuesday Thursday Sunday Weekly Total
15th March 15 minutes 15 minutes 20 minutes
22nd March 2 Kilometres 2 Kilometres 2 Kilometres 6 Kilometres
29th March 3 kilometres 2 Kilometres 3 kilometres 8 Kilometres
5th April 3 kilometres 2 Kilometres 5 kilometres 10 Kilometres
12th April 3 kilometres 4 Kilometres 6 kilometres 13 Kilometres

26th April 4 kilometres 6 Kilometres 8 kilometres 18 Kilometres
3rd May 4 kilometres 4 Kilometres Annerville 10K 18 Kilometres

Week One - Here the pace should be at conversation pace and you are running / walking for 15 minutes to 20 minutes for three sessions. Training can be hard at first as you have to adjust to training consistently and a help here would be to get a friend(s) to train with you, then both of you will help each other to stick to the schedule. These sessions should be done on a relatively level terrain. There are four rest days in the week and one of these can incorporate a walk at a leisurely pace for 15 to 20 minutes. Check you footwear and make sure that they have a good heel. The Sunday session - try and do this session on a completely different route than the other two sessions as variety can be a great help in sticking to a training schedule. Best of luck !!

4k Winter Series

September 2nd, 2009 admin

We are once again organising an 8 race series over the usual course, please find poster attached and again let us all spread the word on this series of races.
Last year we got a tremendous response from Club members to help out, this year we are asking for a similar response, we will need at least 5 people to run the race each night and the early indications are that numbers will be well up on last year so we may need more help. Please find the roster attached or just send me an email outlining what night(s) you are willing to help.
