Alan O Shea and Michael Duggan win

January 26th, 2012 admin

Despite the bad weather in the lead up to the race the weather for the race was dry and cold and we witnessed some great racing. Tonight’s race format had athletes predicting their finishing times and then running the distance without a watch. We had 2 athletes who got to within a second of their prediction and they were Michael Duggan and Alan O Shea while Johanna Lacey was 2 seconds off her prediction. We then had three athletes who were 3 seconds outside their predicted finishing times and they were Niall O Ceallaigh, Derek Nolan and Grainne O Keeffe. We had six athletes who were five seconds off their predicted finishing times and they were Bernie Walsh, Melissa McCarthy, John Falvey, Mark King, Michael Maunsell and Moira Molloy. Congrats to all the winners and once again we had a great entry of 117 athletes, brilliant considering the weather in the lead up to the race.
Next week’s race format is where every athlete’s fastest time in this series is taken and the computer randomly adds up to ten seconds on to their fastest time or it will deduct up to ten seconds off their fastest time and this then was their target time to match. The winners will be those athletes closest to their target times. In this competition athletes can wear their watches.

Bernie O Neill – All Ireland Champion

January 15th, 2012 admin

The All Ireland Master Track and Field Indoor Championships took place in Nenagh last Sunday. Once again Bernie O Neill put in some brilliant performances in the over 60 category. In the 60m he got off to a flying start only to be re called due to a false start. At the 2nd attempt the race went off and Bernie ran very well to win the Bronze medal. He then turned his attention to the Long Jump. Here he put together a great series of jumps his best of 3.97m saw him win the All Ireland title, a brilliant performance. He then turned his attention to the 200m and in the final he ran a brilliant race especially on the bends to come storming down the finishing straight to capture the Silver medal, brilliant running. Bernie has certainly started 2012 with some fabulous performances and I have no doubt he will now turn his attention to the Munster outdoors in June and the All Ireland outdoor Championship in August with great determination and enthusiasm.

Brilliant start to 4k series - 154 participants

January 12th, 2012 admin

Congrats to all the participants for creating another record, we had 154 finishers for this series, a record for the New Year Series and just 3 short of the overall best achieved in race 3 in the 2011 Pre Christmas series. Tonight we had 41 new participants that didn’t take part in the 2011 Pre Christmas series, welcome abroad and I hope you enjoyed the event. It was an ideal night for running and despite the strong breeze on the lower road, times were impressive, a lot of people minded themselves over the Christmas.
The race format tonight was Lucky Dip with a Draw taking place before the race on finishing positions, these prizes will be presented at next week’s race.
The format for race 2 is “Match the Pre Selected Time”. For this race Pre Selected times will be randomly selected and the winners will be those athletes who match or are the nearest to these times. In this event you are allowed to wear your watch, this will give people another chance to pace themselves for the distance.
Tonight’s staggered start work a treat and thanks again for your co operation. We will implement this system for all the races in this series. As regards your times, for those athletes that ran in Group One I added 30 seconds to their finishing time and for Group Two athletes I added 15 seconds to your finishing time as the Clock started with Group 3 and Group One started 30 seconds ahead of Group 3 while Group 2 started 15 seconds ahead of Group 3. So keep that in mind for the remaining races in the series where you are allowed to wear the watch.
Well done again to all the Stewards on duty, such help is greatly appreciated and again we would ask people to come forward and volunteer to do some stewarding and if they are can they let me know well in advance so that we can make sure we have enough stewards for each race. You can send me an email to niallfosullivan1@eircom.net or a text to 086 1660888.
